Q double page spread

This double page spread has used the layout of taking up one of the pages for an image and using the other page for the content of the article. The image is of very high quality which makes the magazine easy to be identified as a high end magazine, especially due to the artist that feature in the magazine as they are highly well known for example this double page spread focuses on Lana Del Rey. The main image is a close up of Lana Del Rey which infers that she is the focus of the article, the image shows Lana closing her eyes and touching her neck which could connote her being a promiscuous woman which is further shown by her lips being parted which is a typical convention of a woman doing in a music magazine. I have learnt this through my magazine research. The image is also quite dull, her lips and neck are the most eye catching as they are in the light whereas the majority of her face is covered by a shadow. The other parts of the image that stand out are the two colours of light at the edges, the red and blue light place emphasis on her hair and indicate that her face is the main focus of the image which it should be as the article is about her. On the article page the majority of the page is taken up by text however, behind the column of text on the left hand side is a large drop capital which stands out among the text as it is in a bold font and takes up the top left hand side of the page. This particular issue of the Q magazine uses a different size font for the different columns of text, this may have been used in order to emphasise the larger font column. Meaning that this column should be red first or that it is a different topic in comparison to the other columns of text on the right. The artists name is in block capitals in the top right hand corner of the page which identifies the artist to any reader that is unsure of the artist and also shows that the whole article is based upon Lana Del Rey. I will use this idea in my magazine as it clearly shows that the double page spread is based upon a particular artist and gives the article a sense of personality as the artist is firstly stated before the reader reads the article about them.
