NME double page spread

This magazines layout is different to others that I have researched but it is highly effective as it engages the reader in different ways. One way it does this is that it has used two main features, one being the image and the other the quote. The image is a major feature as it takes up the majority of the right hand side page, the artist is looking directly at the reader therefore engages them into reading the article. The artists style definitely represents the genre of rock/punk which is clear to the reader at first glance. Her style is rock/punk as she is wearing an oversized checked shirt with the sleeves rolled up to show her tattoos on her fore arm. She is wearing chains around her neck and as heavy eyeliner, these are all connotations of the genre and she could be identified with being a goth. The other main feature of this issue of the NME magazine is the quote, it takes up the majority of the left hand side page but also overlaps onto the next page. Just like the quote the image also overlaps onto the next page which I like as it doesn't make the two pages completely separate from each other and it makes it clear that they are connected. The quote is in a font which looks like pieces of paper which have been taken out of a magazine, this is because of the large bits of black that stick out of the font and overlap one another. This is effective as it infers the genre as the font is quite reckless but look cool just like the connotations of the rock/punk style. The actual text of the article is located at the bottom of the left hand side page, there isn't a lot of content but there are four columns of text so is has the typical layout. Another code and convention that the magazine has stuck to is the drop capital and having the artists name emphasised in some way this example being 'Lily Allen' shown in a red/orange font among black text. I will consider using a similar layout for my magazine such as having a quote on my double page spread and the image over lapping onto the next page as it places more emphasis on the artist which is highly important.
