Q front page analysis

This issue of the Q magazine typically uses the standard Q title for branding and its conventions of this, which refer to the red background and white text which is key to the audience as it is easily identified with the magazine. The title surprisingly takes up the top left hand corner of the page making it dominant to the readers eye. The main image on the front cover highly engages the audience as she is right looking at them and her hand is extremely engaging as she is almost reaching out and touching the reader which is further referenced to in the text under Florence's name. The image also makes a reference to Florence being a singer by her holding a microphone whilst her lips are partially open connoting that she was signing. Her lips being this way could also connote that the magazine is trying to represent her in a sexual way. Florence's whole look clearly demonstrates the genre of that the magazine is based upon as it shows her wearing a silk jacket and lots of rings connoting her being an indie singer. The front page dominantly uses its two house style colours which are red and white but has added a little yellow to make certain details stand out. Florence's name uses a different font as it emphasises it among the rest of the text and background. The red font is used on Florence's name as she is identified with this colour as she is a red head, this is a classic representation of Florence. The individual text surrounding Florence perfectly lies around her also indicating that she is the main focus of this issue of the magazine. The reader can immediately acknowledges the magazine being indie as it references indie music a lot on the front cover for example the '50 indie rock records you must own' and the fact that the 'gun roses' logo is also featured on the front cover. The 'indie' part implies that the audience know what indie means as not everyone knows, it immediately shows the reader what genre the magazine is and who its target audience is. The 'Hit men!' subtitle further emphasises that the magazine focuses on female signers, it implies that it is now the time for women to have a dramatic effect on the music industry hence why Florence is on the front cover and is the main focus of the issue.
