Kerrang contents
This contents page uses a different format in comparison to other ones that I've researched as it has placed the image at the top of the page and the text at the bottom whereas other magazines have put the text to the right or left and the image on the opposite side, this is the general format used for a contents page. This has also included screenshots of the pages on the top left which could indicate that these are the main pages/articles. The house style is constantly used throughout the magazine to create synergy between the pages, it is becoming clear to me that most magazines of this genre use the same house style colours of black, white, yellow and red. I would say that these colours are used as they aren't gender specific/gender neutral so appeal to both genders. This contents page also uses the blocky look but also has an image that takes up about half the page. However, the text is placed in columns and the titles are very blocky as the font is block capitals and put on top of a black background. The title of the magazine appears after the title of the page but is in a white font so doesn't particularly take any attention away from the page title or 'This week' as this content is the most important part of a contents page to indicate to the reader what is in the magazine. Overall, the page is quite tightly packed with text which can come across confusing to the reader as they aren't sure which text is the most important and might not want to read a lot of text on this page. I will bare this in mind when creating my contents page as I don't believe that this much text is necessary, I will include the titles such as 'news, features, album reviews' and will add text under each of these as they will be pages within my magazine but I will not try to cram loads of information in only the necessary amount. This contents page has made me think about the layout of which I am going to pick for my magazine as it is unusual compared to other ones but I reckon that I will place the text on the left with pictures of the left. I will also take my house style colours into more consideration so that I am not targeting a specific gender as this could limit my target audience.
