Preliminary task
Firstly I started by looking at the codes and conventions of typical magazines, which indicated to me the key conventions that all magazines contain. This being designated margins for text, main image covering the whole page, title in bold/stand out font and smaller images to balance out the text with additional images. For my front page, I chose to focus my magazine on the sixth form as I could have my main story on one of the sixth form students, this was a simple decision as I could apply it to me and my friends. I chose to follow the codes and conventions of a front page by having specific margins to the side of the page for text, with the main title of the stories in a larger font and the rest of the text flowing underneath. I placed other images towards the bottom of the page to be equivalent with the amount of text, these images are the Whitley Bay high school logo and a picture of the common room to reiterate the magazine being aimed at sixth form students. For the contents page I arranged the text and pictures next to one another so that its clear what text goes with what text, I have used a consistent font and layout throughout the two pages to create synergy between the two. Overall, I am pleased with my front and contents pages as they have a defined layout and audience which makes them apply to the codes and conventions of magazines. I am also pleased with the content in the pages and the quality of the photos.
On my music magazine I will consider changing the layout to suit the genre of my magazine and apply a different font in order to engage my target audience.
